- Object to the decision (ricorso) — Use this for a written appeal (ricorso) to the office named in the letter, for example the Prefetto for a fine. Tax appeals go to the tax court (Corte di giustizia tributaria) — for larger amounts you usually need a tax adviser or lawyer. Send it before the deadline.
- Ask for more time (proroga del termine) — Use this if you can’t make the deadline. Send it before the deadline ends.
- Ask to pay in parts (rateizzazione) — Use this if you can’t pay the full amount at once. Offer an amount you can really pay every month.
- Ask for a new appointment — Use this if you can’t come. Send it before the appointment and add proof if you can (for example a doctor’s note).
- Ask them to cancel a clear mistake (istanza di autotutela) — Use this if the notice is clearly wrong, for example you already paid or it is for someone else. It does not stop the deadline to appeal, so watch that date too.
